May 15, 2023 The History Taskforce is beginning a large project today...the digitization of the Gandy family's collection of historical documents. Harley Gandy wrote the comprehensive history of Montgomery County in 1952 and served as president of the Montgomery County Historical Commission. After his death, his wife served for many years as president of the Commission. After her recent passing, the Taskforce was asked to digitize all of the research documents that they had collected during their long lives of service. This huge treasure trove of material will take some time to complete. We are using 5 camera teams of 20 people each day to work on this project. The Gandy family members will decide where the actual documents will be donated once the work is complete. These electronic versions of these documents will eventually be available free to anyone at Familysearch.org. More to come on our discoveries as we work through all this material. March 2023
The History Taskforce was asked in March 2023 to provide assistance to the Montgomery Historical Society to examine the contents of several storage trunks in the Addison-Gandy House. The trunks were original to the house when it was given to the Society by the Gandy family over a decade ago. The trunks contained items of clothing belonging to the family, including a wedding dress from the early 20th century and women's day clothing and evening dresses from the late 1890s to the 1950s. They also included some books, household linen, posters and other personal items that belonged to the family. The clothing was examined and hung up to combat the dampness and mold that had occurred while it had been stored in the unairconditioned environment of the historic house. Several pieces were photographically documented and when they are in a better condition, the Taskforce will assist the Society with arranging to display suitable pieces at the local museum or at home tours. |
