We've set up a donation page for the History Taskforce, to help raise funds for our restoration of the historic Thomas Chapel in Willis, Texas. Please help save this historic Texas state landmark, a church built in 1899 by sons of slaves from the Greenwood Plantation in Danville, Texas. This is the oldest continuous use building and the only state landmark in Montgomery County. This church has always been a center for the black community in Willis, having served as a school to teach freed slaves to read and write, and was at the center of the civil rights movement with voter registration.

You can donate by clicking the link above, or by scanning the QR code with your phone. Please feel free to also share this post, so that we can reach our fundraising goal and complete the restoration started two years ago.

The History Taskforce is a 501(3) nonprofit incorporated in Texas for the purpose of researching and preserving the history of the area and for educating people in Southeast Texas about their heritage. The Taskforce is made up of a group of volunteers with various expert skill sets who work together to research many historically significant projects.  We also work as consultants to other historic groups who ask for assistance on their projects and events.
